A Golden Labrador Gave It's Owners The Shock Of Their Life When A Ball It Was Carrying Hatched A Baby Crocodile Which Mistook The Animal For It's Guardian Making Them Inseparable
Maddy and David Leach from Bimblewick couldn’t believe their eyes four years ago, when their dog Sadie, a 6 year old Golden Labrador refused to release a ball from her mouth. It turned out this ball was a Crocodile egg, and the warmth from Sadie’s mouth provided the ideal conditions for the egg to hatch. Upon seeing her for the first time, the dog would not allow anyone near the baby Crocodile and her motherly instincts kicked in.
She would guard and insulate the crocodile in her basket and bark at anyone who came near her. It was very clear Sadie was saying: “Stay away from my child!” Four years later the two are the very best of friends, with a mutual love and respect for each other, reptile and K9 inseparable.
“They play together in the garden, at the beach, in swimming pools, the local lake, and they really are the most connected two different species could ever be. They can not be separated. In fact when Sadie is at the vets, Agatha (the name they gave the crocodile) gets separation anxiety and walks around the house in a depressed state, sometimes snapping with angry outbursts.” Explains Maddy, whilst her husband nods and continues the story.
“I mean, who could have predicted this relationship it really is the most gentle creature on the planet making friends with one of the most potentially deadly reptiles mother nature created. Nurture really does make a difference.” David proudly claims.
“When it comes to meal times, instead of putting Agatha on Sadie’s diet, we decided to do the opposite, and feed them both fish and meat from the butchers and fish-mongers. Agatha will watch salivating like a dog as the food is put in her bowl, and like Sadie they both wait until they are giving the go ahead to start eating.”
Agatha is not only best friends with Sadie, but she makes an outstanding guard animal not only for the house, but the rest of the street. She has fought off burglars, warned off car thieves, and is generally looked upon as a positive addition to the Bimblewick community.
“If Sadie barks at someone in a suspicious way, that’s Agatha’s indicator that something is wrong and she needs to take action. It really is a pairing that is based on years of knowing each other. I’m convinced that Agatha thinks that she’s a Labrador.”
Last year someone tried to break into David’s car. “Yes the bloke had severe bite marks in his arm, but the scars will make him think twice about ever going for someone else’s property like that.” David makes clear “Agatha was the hero here! You don’t villainise a home owner for giving a burglar a smack down if he breaks in, do you? This is Agatha’s turf, and she knows that car takes her to Belton Tidsea beach every Sunday for a swim, so she’s not going to give it up in a hurry!”
What of the moral implications of having a huge predator reptile at home in the community? David has that covered. “We have full council permission and a majority support for Agatha remaining here in Bimblewick, and just that pillock Mayor Parsnip has been the only vocal opposition! But he’s in the minority so his opinion wasn’t big enough to count!”
Aware that Sadie is ten years old now and Agatha could live as long as 70 years, the Leach’s have a brand new family member in Rosco the 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy. Agatha has shined to her very much like a mother and now it’s her turn to raise the little one and set the example.
